The economy’s picking up but it’s still tough out there for many small businesses 💼

If you’re feeling the pressure, you’re not alone and there are smart ways to stay afloat!

Here’s what to watch out for ⚠️

• Poor cash flow

• Weak marketing or unclear value

• Ignoring customer needs

• Growing too fast

Smart moves to stay steady 💪

• Track cash flow weekly and trim unnecessary costs

• Pay tax on time…. don’t borrow from IRD

• Focus on what you do best

• Know your customers and ask for quick feedback

• Keep marketing, even when you’re busy

• Stay flexible and ready to adapt

• Ask for help… mentors, groups, or pros can make all the difference

👉 Bottom line: Stay sharp, stay focused and don’t go it alone

Claiming car costs for business? Here’s how it works! 🚗💰

If you use your own car for work, you can claim mileage using the new kilometre rates 👇

2025 KM RATES:

🚘 Petrol — Tier 1: $1.17/km | Tier 2: $0.37/km

🚛 Diesel — Tier 1: $1.26/km | Tier 2: $0.35/km

⚡ Electric — Tier 1: $1.08/km | Tier 2: $0.19/km

🔋 Petrol hybrid — Tier 1: $0.86/km | Tier 2: $0.21/km

How it works:

➡️ Tier 1 covers your first 14,000km — includes fixed + running costs.

➡️ Tier 2 applies after 14,000km — covers running costs only!

Example:

If you drive 21,000km in a year and 25% is business use, claim:
• 3,500km @ $1.17
• 1,750km @ $0.37

A simple, fair way to get reimbursed for business driving… no need to track every expense! 🙌

💰 Club surpluses may now be taxable!

It used to be assumed that member payments (like for meals or events) weren’t taxable. But after recent Australian tax cases, IRD is rethinking the rules. 👀

👉 What’s changed?
If your club’s constitution doesn’t stop assets from being returned to members when it winds up, IRD now treats member payments as non-mutual. That means part of your surplus could be taxed.

📌 Example:
Club makes $1500 surplus on meals → $1000 tax-free, $500 taxed

✨ The good news:
IRD won’t go back over past returns. This only applies moving forward
